Scot Williams

Scot was born in Liverpool in 1972, (in the very hospital in which John Lennon had been Born, 32 years previous). He grew up in the PENNY LANE area of the City, just two streets away from where Lennon had once lived and attended the same School that Paul McCartney had attended several years earlier.

At the age of 18, (whilst in Czechoslovakia performing Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM with The Liverpool Playhouse), he wrote his first stage play, GROWING YOUNG. The Liverpool Playhouse selected the play to go into production and in 1992 it was staged under the direction of Scot to great critical acclaim. (See Press)

At aged just 19, Scot was represented by the respected literary agent Alan Brodie and encouraged to write. What followed was five full length stage plays, THE HERD OF BRUTES, GET ANOTHER LOVER MOTHER, THE PLASTIC DAFT, LEVEL MINUS 99 and HUGGERMUGGER, three of which where produced at The Liverpool Playhouse and Unity Theatres between 1992 and 1995, earning him nominations in both the BEST NEW THEATRE TALENT and BEST NEW TALENT IN LITERATURE categories at the Liverpool Echo and Daily Post arts awards.

(Further nominations in the BEST ACTOR and BEST CONTRIBUTION TO FILM categories, makes Scot the only person to ever receive nominations in FOUR different categories at these awards).

 

It was during this time, that Scot was cast (alongside fellow Writer Chris O’Neill) in the 1994 Beatles Biog Motion Picture BACKBEAT (directed by Iain Softley) in the Role of original drummer PETE BEST.

 

The BAFTA winning movie was a huge international success and sprung Scot into a successful acting career, a career he has enjoyed ever since. In the years that have followed, he has starred in over a dozen films, Two dozen Television Dramas and played lead roles on both the West End’s prestigious Criterion and Donmar Warehouse theatres.

 

Amongst Scot’s many credits are:

The Palm D’or nominated trilogy of films entitled THE TULSE LUPER SUITCASES (written and directed by the legendary film maker Peter Greenaway). The BAFTA award winning drama HILLSBOROUGH; written by BAFTA winner Jimmy McGovern and directed by Emmy Award winner Charles McDougall (Desperate Housewives, Sex In The City). Lead roles in the U.S. movies TEMPESTA alongside Malcolm McDowell and Rutger Hauer (directed by Walt Disney’s great nephew Tim Disney).

As well as SWING (opposite Lisa Stansfield, Tom Bell and Rita Tushingham), and the US Thriller PERFECT LIFE (opposite Jesse Bradford and Stephen Berkoff). More recently, Scot has starred in the Hit British Crime Thriller THE CREW (alongside Stephen Graham), the award winning feature BEYOND THE FIRE (opposite Cara Seymour), CLUBBED (with Colin Salmon and Maxine Peake) and the recent hit movie DEAD MAN RUNNING (starring Brenda Blethin, Phil Davis and 50 Cent).

Besides Feature Films, Scot has also starred in regular roles in the TV drama’s LIVERPOOL 1 (Alongside Samantha Womack), MERSEYBEAT, NICE GUY EDDIE (With Ricky Thomlinson), and most recently the hugely popular period drama LILIES for The BBC (as Father Melia) and the mysterious CAPEWRATH for Channel 4 and Showtime in The United States, (alongside David Morrissey, Tom Hardy and Felicity Jones). 

Scot has also guested in some of Britain’s most popular television shows including CASUALTY, HOLBY CITY, NEW TRICKS, HEARTBEAT, WHERE THE HEART IS and MURDER IN MIND. Despite this busy work load, Scot has continued to write; notching up two screenplays THE GUILTY GUESSED and FROM GRACE (the later being optioned by Kasander Films for a possible future movie production).

Scot’s brand new stage play DESERTED is due to receive it’s World Premiere this Winter at the Contemporary Urban Centre in Liverpool.

Chris O'Neill

Chris O’Neill is an accomplished musician, songwriter and actor. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and has been in many bands, composing many of his own songs with various album releases to his name (Rainmaker and Altitude under the name WATER being the most successful).
Chris got his first break into Film when he landing the role of George Harrison in Backbeat. He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the young Beatle and also tutored the other actors in how to play their instruments convincingly for the roles.
 
Chris went on to star in the films JULIE AND THE CADALACS and THE TRAIN, as well as in the television drama ‘ELLINGTON’ and the theatre show ‘LOVE ME DO’ (This time as John Lennon). Chris’s musical film experience has also seen him take to roles BEHIND the camera. The NBC film ‘IN HIS LIFE (THE JOHN LENNON STORY) gave him the opportunity not only to play musician Tony Sheridan, but also to act as Musical Coordinator.
Inspired by his successful performance in the BAFTA Award winning ‘BACKBEAT’. Chris formed ‘The Backbeat Beatles’ 1994. Following numerous TV appearances and a country wide P.A. tour they were snapped up to appear in the highly successful Ultimate Tribute Show late in 1994, which toured major UK theatres and cities. 1995 and 1996 saw their popularity increase with several UK and European tours of major venues including their own COMPLETE HISTORY OF THE BEATLES show which toured Apollo theatres and appearances on The Big Breakfast for Channel 4.
 
The Backbeat Beatles are arguably “The Best Beatles tribute band on the circuit” having built up an unrivalled reputation and were recently asked to perform at the Sporting Club of Monaco for the Forte International Hotels Conference. The manager of the Sporting Club said they were the first band he has asked to do an encore in fifteen years! Remarkable when you consider that top international stars have played there. As well as superb renditions of favourite Beatles hits, from Love Me Do through to Let It Be, wearing both classic Beatles suits and full Sgt. Pepper regalia. Their excellent level of musicianship and irrepressible Scouse Wit means that their success continues to spiral and their fan club is now bursting at the seams! Their show covers the Beatles’ material from 1960 to 1970. All sets include costume changes and make-up to help reflect the evolution of the Beatles’ career and the era changes are accomplished by incorporating the use of authentic replica musical instruments and equipment as used by the Beatles. 
Known fans of BACKBEAT are said to include George Harrison’s sister Louise, John Lennon’s first-wife Cynthia, Son Julian, former friend to the Beatles and official Beatles photographer Astrid Kirchherr, Klaus Voorman, designer of The Revolver Album cover and Bass Player in John Lennon’s “Plastic Ono” band as well as their former drummer Alan White.
In the year 2000 Chris returned to his first love MUSIC and went back on the road, (something he has been doing with various artists ever since). He has toured extensively overseas and done session work for many projects, including writing with successful record producers Rose and Foster as well as writing and recording the theme tune to the recently successful BBC drama series MOVING ON. 
 
Whilst on tour In 2008 Chris was spotted by film maker Maeve Murphy and asked to join the cast of BEYOND THE FIRE, (which by pure co-incidence would once again see him team up Scot Williams). Chris recorded the sound track to BEYOND THE FIRE with Irish Band Kila, which was released in the Summer of 2009. 

 

Most recently Chris has also been writing songs for the singer Ren Harvieu. Their debut single will be released in October for Island Records with the album release most likely to be in January 2012. Chris will also be filming a new movie in The Shetland isles in the spring of 2012 called BETWEEN WEATHERS . (See Press).
